Leah Woods
Leah (she/they) is a dedicated dance artist and educator with a deep passion for movement. She holds an M.F.A. in Dance and Performance from the University of Colorado, Boulder, with a specialization in Somatics, where she integrates the Alexander Technique, the Feldenkrais Method, and BodyMind Centering into her teaching.
Leah enjoyed an extensive 11-year performance career in the San Francisco Bay Area, where she also taught Pilates and yoga professionally. An avid student of Tom Weksler since 2016, Leah's practice combines Contemporary dance, Soft Acrobatics, Martial Arts, and Contact Improvisation. Her introduction to Ido Portal's movement culture in 2018 at the Boulder Movement Collective has profoundly influenced her work.
For the past 8 years, Leah has been teaching within the GYROTONIC® system, incorporating this experience into her comprehensive movement practice. Her commitment to floorwork is evident in her extensive studies, including four years at the B12 Movement Research Contemporary Dance Festival and multiple certifications in Floor Flow with Marlo Fisken. Leah continues to deepen her practice with Ground Grooves in Los Angeles.
Leah is currently furthering her exploration of movement arts through Marcello Palozzo's 5-year Human Movement studies program and the Fighting Monkey 10-month mentorship program, ensuring that her teaching is always evolving and deeply informed by her ongoing studies.
