Frequently Asked Questions

What are the fees?

No fees for the first year. We provide our outreach programs free of charge to participating schools in Adams, Boulder, Broomfield, and Douglas counties. Those schools receiving the program for the second (or more) time are asked to contribute to support the continuation of the program at the school. This is not applicable to Title 1 schools.

If you would like an outreach program for your center or community, fees vary. Please contact Program Manager, Melissa Halpin, for details and a quote.

How long are the programs?

The Elementary School program is designed to deliver 2 days of instruction to each participating class group. This schedule can be modified to meet the needs of the school.
The Middle School Program is designed to deliver 4 days of instruction to each participating class group, with an informal performance during the student’s class time on their final day.
*Note – each day refers to one lesson per class group (approximately 40-55 minutes each)

The Assembly Performance program is approximately 1 hour.

When and how can we book a program for our school?

Generally, bookings are accepted in April/May for the following school year starting in August. The programs are available on a first-come, first-served basis and our calendar fills up very fast. However, you are welcome to contact Outreach Manager, Melissa Halpin at any time to check for any open spots.

How do the programs connect with the Colorado curriculum?

Creativity, collaboration, and curriculum! Boulder Ballet aims to provide high-quality arts education programming for elementary and middle school students to discover joy and confidence through dance. Our outreach programs foster the creative potential of all students while providing a supportive environment emphasizing the art of dance. Lifelong learning is encouraged through collaborative group work and movement activities. Each residency addresses the core competencies in the Colorado Academic Standards for physical education, music, and/or science.

I'm a school teacher interested in the program for my students. Can the program cover all my students for the whole day/week?

Depending on the funding available to us and the school’s schedule, the Boulder Ballet instructor/s can teach all classes throughout the day for the duration of the residency. This is two days of instruction (per class group) for Elementary Schools and four days of instruction (per class group) for Middle Schools.

Can we combine classes to cover more students?

We try to keep to a 1:30 ratio as much as possible to ensure the highest quality instruction. In some cases we can be flexible with this depending on circumstances.

What does 'class group' mean?

Class group refers to the group of students in one lesson. If the school teacher sees six classes per day, we refer to this as six class groups.
Elementary School example: If the school teacher has six classes per day and the students rotate every other day, this would result in a total of twelve class groups. The program would need to be scheduled for four days to accommodate all students.
Middle School example: If the school teacher has six classes per day that remain the same for the whole week, this would be considered six class groups and could be covered in four days with the performance during their class time on the fourth day. In this scenario there would be 6 performances on the fourth day – one for each class group.
