Five Point Dancer Method
at Boulder Ballet

This method was established to help guide dancers in creating their own dance experience using positive self-assessment tools, the knowledge of trusted professional resources, and a curriculum structured in supporting all five points of the program. Through Mindset, Work Ethic, Nutrition, Injury Prevention, and Cross Training, each dancer will begin to understand how they can achieve their goals. Technique Integration

In addition to structured dance classes, it is imperative that time is taken to fully explain and equip dancers with the knowledge and understanding to create the positions, movements, and sequences asked of them. As teachers, this requires us to slow down and take the time to see each dancer as an individual with their own personal needs and make sure the dancers are focused and progressing at a pace that is right for them. This will help them avoid injury and allow each dancer to improve greatly in a short amount of time. Technique Integration class moves at a slower pace, addressing individual exercises and relating them specifically to different genres of dance techniques and choreography. Often there is a gap between dance conditioning and cross training classes and how the dancers use that knowledge in their classwork and preparation for performances. The goal of this class is to bridge that gap and allow each dancer the time to approach their technique in more detail and incorporate team teaching between students for next-level learning.

Five Point Fit

Dancers are athletes! It takes a certain amount of grit, vitality and education to withstand the demands placed on their bodies. Dancers are expected to make their dancing look effortless, all while meeting the expectations of new choreographers and directors in the professional dance world. Our vision is not just that of the professional dancer, but a common desire for our dancers to have a broader view that incorporates the health and strength of their bodies throughout their lifelong journey. Five Point Fit cross training classes are designed to give the dancers the strength, endurance, and power needed to reach their maximum potential in technique and performance. Dancers are led through a progression of exercises that will in turn leave them feeling strong, empowered, and more versatile. This offers the dancers a new way to look at fitness that we hope leaves a lasting impression they can take with them to college, their future gym, or their future dance career!

Pointe Safe

Injury Prevention is key when a dancer is deciding to prepare for getting their first pair of pointe shoes. The Five Point Dancer Method at Boulder Ballet has adopted the Point Safe program program to help guide dancers through this special moment in their dance journey. This program also helps support parents and guides teachers through the process of determining if a dancer displays the strength, stability, and body awareness needed to begin on pointe.
