Boulder Ballet opens the 2021/22 season with this mesmerizing program featuring 5 works that reach our hearts. Amy Seiwert’s The Devil Ties My Tongue is a contemporary work exploring the complexity of communication, connections, and deep internal conflicts. Inspired by Leonard Cohen’s poem, S.O.S, Seiwert’s work features intricate partnering work and detailed gestures that convey Cohen’s powerful words: “Take a long time with your anger, sleepy head/ Don’t waste it in riots/ Don’t tangle it with ideas/ The Devil won’t let me speak.”
In addition to this company premier, Boulder Ballet revives two of Christopher Wheeldon’s emotional pas de deux’s. The American portrays the soft happiness of a relaxing a summer evening, while Je Ne T’aime Pas show the struggle of a couple separating through loss of love. We will also perform two world premieres by Lance Hardin , accompanied by live music with Jamie Shaak. The evening will be completed by Paul Taylor’s Airs, a modern dance featuring smooth, lyrical movement, fast, precise footwork, and a joyful finale.
