Boulder Ballet School
provides quality ballet training for all ages, in a uniquely artistic and creative atmosphere. As a professional-track ballet school, Boulder Ballet serves students interested in dance as a career as well as those wanting to dance for fun in an atmosphere of excellence. With superb technical and performance abilities, many of our students have earned regional and national honors. The Florence Ruston Award for Overall Excellence in Dance has twice been awarded to Boulder Ballet School students. This award is presented at the annual Denver Ballet Guild Scholarship Competition to only one of the over 250 participants from ballet schools throughout Colorado. Boulder Ballet School alumni have gone on to dance with renowned companies such as American Ballet Theater, San Francisco Ballet, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, Norwegian National Ballet, Colorado Ballet, Milwaukee Ballet, Ballet British Columbia, and Royal Swedish Ballet to name a few.

The Boulder Ballet School evolved from the Ballet Arts Studio, founded over 30 years ago by Barbara Demaree and Larry Boyette. Boulder Ballet currently occupies three spacious studios, a costume shop and offices at the Dairy Center for the Arts.

Under the direction of
Ana Claire since 1999, the ballet school has tripled in size. Boulder Ballet School is dedicated to helping students achieve technical excellence while nurturing their individual artistry. The Boulder Ballet School faculty features artists with international performing and teaching experience. The goal of the program is to train well-rounded performing artists who are technically proficient and posses expressive performance abilities. To accomplish this, the ballet program augments the classical ballet technique with training in modern dance, character dance, and physical theater.

Boulder Ballet School has the largest dance program for boys in the area, including Boyz Dance, a unique mix of dance, mime and juggling, and Boys Ballet which focuses specifically on the male classical technique.

Boulder Ballet School also offers pas de deux (partnering) in its pre-professional curriculum.

Students of
Boulder Ballet School have numerous performing opportunities, including Boulder Ballet productions such as The Nutcracker (by audition), the annual Student Choreographers Showcase, the End of Year Showcase, and Storybook Ballet, a unique opportunity for students to appear in a full ballet production including original, commissioned music, costumes, scenery, and choreography. Past Storybook Ballet productions include The Little Prince, The Emperor's New Clothes, Josefina's Story, Persephone, Winter Flower, The Little Match Girl, Wizard of Oz, and Alice in Wonderland.

Boulder Ballet's Apprentice Program provides several advanced level students with performing opportunities in major productions alongside professional company dancers, partial scholarships, and discounted pointe shoes and dancewear through our sponsor Boulder Body Wear.

Boulder Ballet School provides classes for pre-school children through adults, beginning through professional. To view class schedule, click here.
