About
Boulder Ballet
Founded in 1982 by Barbara Demaree and Wanda Tierney,
Boulder Ballet has grown to become Boulder County's major professional dance
company and school. Each year, Boulder Ballet reaches thousands through
performances at historic Macky Auditorium on the C.U. campus, the
Dairy Center for the Arts (where Boulder Ballet is one of three
original resident organizations), and numerous outreach programs at
schools, festivals, and special events throughout the metro
area.
Since 1989, Boulder Ballet has enjoyed a
partnership with the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra in presenting
classical ballets complete with professional scenery, costumes,
lighting designs, and casts of up to 100 dancers. Past full-scale
productions have included Coppélia, Giselle, Carmen, Firebird, Romeo and Juliet,
Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and the annual holiday tradition, The Nutcracker.
Past artistic directors who have
contributed to Boulder Ballet's artistic quality and success include
Milenko Banovich (formerly of Zagreb Ballet), Robin Haig (Royal
Ballet), and John Prinz (American Ballet Theater), along with many
virtuoso guest artists and teachers.
Today Boulder Ballet is
under the artistic direction of Ana Claire and Peter Davison.
Combining decades of professional performing and teaching experience
with a deep commitment to the Boulder community where they are
raising a family, Claire and Davison are uniquely qualified to lead
Boulder Ballet into its next era. The current vision for
Boulder Ballet builds on the accomplishments and knowledge gained
through the company's twenty-year history, and extends the
possibilities of increased audiences and national attention by
infusing the classical repertoire with original, theatrically driven
ballets that are accessible to today's audiences.
Outreach
programs supported by the Scientific and Cultural Facilities
District (SCFD), Boulder Arts Commission, and the Denver Ballet Guild are performed at
numerous schools throughout Boulder and Denver each Spring. These
programs illuminate the history of ballet from the renaissance to
the present day, and demonstrate the athletic demands of a beautiful
art.
Boulder Ballet provides opportunities for students of its school to
appear in productions such as the Nutcracker
where they can experience the rehearsal and performance process
alongside professional performers.
Ticket sales make up only a small
portion of the income necessary to support a professional ballet
company. Corporate and individual donations, in-kind sponsorships,
and grants enable Boulder Ballet to provide high quality ballet
performances to the Boulder community and beyond. Boulder Ballet is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization, and all contributions are tax deductible as allowed by law. If you are
