Sunday October 21 Boulder Ballet Artistic Director Ana Clare was honored by The University of Denver’s Carson Brierly Giffin Dance Library as one of 2018’s “Legends of Dance in Colorado” based on her outstanding contribution to the rich dance heritage of the state. Ana was selected as one of six recipients of the award due to her performing, artistic direction and teaching accomplishments. In order to preserve the history of dance in Colorado, a video interview is recorded with each of the honorees, along with relevant photos and memorabilia, and all are securely placed in Special Collections at the library. The celebration to honor all of the 2018 recipients was held last night at the University of Denver. Ana Claire has been Artistic Director of Boulder Ballet since 2004. She studied ballet with Maxine Williamson, Fernando Schaffenberg, Milenko Banovich, Barbara Demaree and Larry Boyette. She performed with Fort Worth Ballet, Fort Worth Opera, David Taylor Dance Theater, Aladdin Theater, Boulder’s Dinner Theater, Jan Justis Dance Company, 3rd Law Dance, and was principal ballerina with Boulder Ballet for many years. Ana studied dance pedagogy at Texas Christian University, attended teacher training workshops with former New York City Ballet principal Jillana, and has over 30 years of teaching experience. For over 20 years she has produced, directed and choreographed an annual Storybook Ballet for the Boulder Ballet School, creatively choreographed all productions of Boulder’s Nutcracker since 2001 and created Boulder Ballet’s outreach program bringing dance to schools throughout the Boulder/Denver area. Many of her students have gone on to professional careers in dance. She is a passionate teacher, dedicated to helping students achieve technical excellence while nurturing their individual artistry.
What an honor, and so well deserved! To think of the countless lives of people effected by Ana Claire that have never taken a class from her but have witnessed her vision and talent through heartfelt productions and her legions of thoughtful and caring dancers. Amazing!!!
